LGBTQIAS+ Counselling
Space to be fully be yourself
Finding a therapist shouldn’t mean wondering whether you’ll have to explain, defend, or minimize who you are. You may be looking for support with anxiety, relationships, identity, family, life transitions, or simply the challenges of everyday life — while also wanting to know that your identity will be understood and respected.
LGBTQIA2S+ affirming counselling offers a space where all parts of you are welcome. Together, we can explore what’s bringing you to therapy without treating your identity as something that needs to be explained, changed, or fixed
You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You may have spent years navigating expectations about who you should be, how you should live, or what your relationships should look like. Even in supportive environments, those experiences can shape how safe it feels to be fully yourself.
You might be navigating identity, coming out, relationships, family dynamics, belonging, discrimination, or the emotional weight of having to decide when and where it feels safe to be open about who you are.
Affirming counselling gives you space to explore these experiences without assumptions or judgment — while also making room for the parts of your life that have nothing to do with your identity.
- Identity, self-understanding or coming out
- Anxiety, stress or feeling overwhelmed
- Family relationships and acceptance
- Dating, relationships and connection
- Boundaries, belonging and self-worth
- Navigating discrimination or minority stress
How LGBTQIA2S+ counselling can help
Affirming counselling isn’t about making assumptions about what you need based on your identity. It’s about creating a therapeutic relationship where you can bring your whole self into the room and focus on what matters to you.
Together, we can explore relationships, identity, emotional wellbeing, boundaries, family experiences, or other challenges in your life while considering the broader experiences and systems that may also be affecting you.
The goal is to help you develop greater self-understanding, strengthen your connection with yourself and others, and create a life that feels increasingly authentic and aligned with who you are.
Understand your experience
Explore how identity, relationships, family, community, and broader life experiences may be shaping how you feel today.
Strengthen connection
Build greater self-understanding while exploring relationships, boundaries, belonging, and what meaningful connection looks like for you.
Live more authentically
Create changes that support greater confidence, self-trust, and a life that feels aligned with who you
Therapy that meets you where you are
Affirming therapy means you shouldn’t have to educate your therapist about who you are before you can begin talking about what brought you to counselling. Your identity is respected as part of the context of your life — without assuming that it is the reason you’re seeking support.
Our work is shaped around you, your experiences, and what you want from therapy. We can explore the deeper patterns contributing to how you feel while also considering the relationships, communities, and systems that have influenced your experience.
Our approach may include:
- LGBTQ2IA+ affirming counselling
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- EMDR
- Somatic and nervous system approaches
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Why work with E-Talk Wellness?
Finding the right therapist is about more than credentials. It’s also about finding someone you can feel comfortable with — someone who respects your identity, understands the importance of affirming care, and creates space for you to show up as yourself.
E-talk Wellness is founded by a queer therapist, bringing both professional training and lived understanding to the importance of affirming, inclusive care. You won’t need to explain why having your identity understood and respected matters — that understanding is already part of the foundation of our practice.
At E-Talk Wellness, LGBTQIA2S+ affirming care isn’t treated as a separate technique or an add-on to therapy. It’s part of how we approach the therapeutic relationship. We recognize that identity, relationships, family, community, culture, and broader systems can all shape your experience.
Our approach is collaborative, compassionate, and focused on understanding what’s underneath the challenges bringing you to therapy. You won’t be expected to fit into a predetermined idea of what healing or growth should look like.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be certain about my identity before starting therapy?
No. You don’t need to have a label, have everything figured out, or know exactly how you identify before coming to therapy. Counselling can be a space to explore questions about identity, attraction, relationships, gender, or belonging at your own pace.
What if LGBTQIA2S+ issues aren’t the reason I’m seeking counselling?
Affirming counselling simply means you can bring your whole self into therapy without your identity being questioned, minimized, or automatically treated as the focus. We’ll centre the work around what matters to you and what brought you to counselling.
Will I have to explain LGBTQIA2S+ terminology or experiences to my therapist?
We approach LGBTQIA2S+ care from an affirming perspective and understand the importance of inclusive language, diverse identities and relationships, and the broader experiences that can affect LGBTQIA2S+ communities.
Can I talk about relationships, sexuality, or gender in counselling?
Yes. Therapy can be a space to talk openly about relationships, sexuality, gender, identity, intimacy, family, or other parts of your life that feel important to you. You decide what you want to explore and at what pace.
