What can I expect in my first session?

     Individual Counselling

In your first counselling session, you’ll meet your counsellor, discuss your concerns and background, and set initial therapy goals. The counsellor will explain the process, review confidentiality, and outline a tailored treatment plan. You’ll also have the chance to ask questions and schedule follow-up sessions to ensure ongoing progress.

    Couples/ Polyamorous Counselling

Session 1: This session involves meeting with you and your partner to discuss your reasons for seeking couples therapy and gather a detailed relationship history. You will be asked to complete the Gottman Enhanced Relationship Checkup questionnaires at home, which will help identify your strengths and challenges as a couple.

Session 2: Each partner will have a 50-minute individual session to discuss personal and family histories, as well as thoughts, feelings, and perceptions.

Session 3: In this final assessment session, we will review the questionnaire results together and collaboratively establish treatment recommendations and therapy goals.

How often should I attend counselling?

Ultimately, it is entirely up to you how often you want to come. My professional suggestion would be to come weekly for the beginning stages of therapy to establish a strong therapeutic relationship and treatment goals. At this time it is important to maintain the momentum in our work together. If this does not meet your financial abilities, every two weeks will also be sufficient.

In our first session we can discuss a treatment plan that suits your financial and emotional needs. If you cannot come as regularly as you’d like i’d encourage you to still come- your mind and body will thank you later.

Can I end my counselling at anytime?

Yes, you can end your counseling at any time. It’s important to discuss your decision with your therapist, as they can help you review your progress and ensure you feel ready to conclude therapy. If you have any concerns or feel the need to adjust the frequency or focus of your sessions, talking openly with your therapist can help tailor the experience to your needs. If you decide to stop, your therapist can also provide recommendations for ongoing support or resources.

    What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations and rescheduling must be done 48 hours prior to your appointment. If you cancel within 48 hours you will be charged the full amount of your session.

Are you available evenings an weekends?

We have varying availability on weekends and evenings. If these are the times you are available, I assure you we can make something work. Please contact me regarding securing a specific time.

    What if it's an emergency?

If you’re in an emergency, it is recommended that you seek medical attention at your local Emergency Department, call 9-1-1, or the crisis centre (310-6789).

    Is counselling right for me?

Deciding whether counselling is right for you can be a significant step. If you’re unsure, consider the following points:

Self-Reflection: Think about the issues or challenges you’re facing and whether they are impacting your well-being, relationships, or daily life.
